The Real Costs of Protected Cropping Environments
Contemporary greenhouses offer many solutions for our future food needs but they use many energy-consuming systems that don't share energy or ecological synergies. These separate systems are expensive to install and difficult to control and maintain. Escalating energy, management, and waste disposal costs are limiting conventional greenhouses to only higher-value crops.
Energy Issues
GrowLightsAdd 70-80% heat energy.
CoolingRequires large cooling and air handling systems.
EnergyCost of energy per kg vegetable growth is high.
CropsCrops are restricted to high-value products.

Going Vertical
Enesys conducted extensive technical and economic modeling of Vertical Farm production under artificial lighting, during the design of a modular vertical growing system. The results revealed that the most critical component and limiting economic barrier for vertical farms and indoor urban farming is energy for par lighting.
Enesys developed Variable Spectrum Intensity and Frequency Growlights to save on energy costs
VSIF GrowLights and control systems based on CubeLink are unique in the horticultural lighting industry and are vastly more energy-efficient due to the spectral flexibility and turndown ratios than can match any plant photosynthetic physiology at all stages of growth cycles.
